1. Check-in

1.1. Check-in can be made until 3.00 p.m. Only guests who have paid in advance are allowed to check-in; post-payment is not permitted.

1.2. In order to validate his/her stay, the guest must identify him/herself by means of a valid identification document, and the staff reserves the right to ask for details of the reservation.

1.3. In case of emergency, guests must call the contacts provided for this purpose.

1.4. Hostel Engenho reserves the right to admit or expel any guest who disregards these rules.

1.5. Changes to the stipulated schedules must be requested in advance through the designated means of communication.

  1. Check-out

2.1. Check-out must be done until 12.00 p.m.

2.2. On the day of check-out, the bed must be left free until 12.00 p.m. and used towels must be left on the shower.

2.3. Check-out before 7.00 a.m. must take into consideration the other guests, respecting their silence and comfort.

2.4. Any alteration to the stipulated schedules must be requested as early as possible and justified, being subject to the availability of the staff and reservations.

  1. Noise

3.1. Special attention is requested regarding noise within the premises, especially during the night, to respect and take into consideration the guests of Hostel Engenho.

3.2. After 22h00 are allowed no activities which cause noise that may disturb other guests of Hostel Engenho (Decree-Law no. 292/2000 of 14 November).

4.Damages

4.1. Any damage caused at Hostel Engenho will be charged to the person responsible.

4.2. Depending on the seriousness of the damage, Hostel Engenho will take the legal measures deemed necessary.

4.3. If it is needed for a member of staff to come to Hostel Engenho, outside reception hours, to resolve

situations caused by a guest, we reserve the right to expel the guest in case of negligence of the rules.

  1. Complaints

5.1. Hostel Engenho has a complaints book.

5.2. In the event of a complaint, please identify the staff member, the time of the complaint and report the incident to the management.

  1. Security

6.1. In accordance with Decreto-Lei n.º 228/2009 de 14/07, this company is not responsible for money, jewellery or other valuables that may disappear within its premises.

6.2. It is not allowed to stay people who are not on the guest list.

6.3. There is first aid equipment, fire extinguisher(s) and fire blanket(s) accessible and correctly identified, and they must be used strictly only in the event of an emergency.

  1. Prohibitions

7.1. Without prejudice to the above and the general rules on local accommodation, it is prohibited within the premises

7.1.1. to smoke or to fume;

7.1.2. to change the layout of the rooms and common areas;

7.1.3. to leave rubbish in the common and private areas;

7.1.4. excessive alcoholic drinks.

  1. Kitchen and Living Room

8.1. At Hostel Engenho there is no breakfast service. However, the guest can make use of a cafeteria equipped with furniture, electrical appliances, and utensils for the preparation of light meals.

These include:

8.1.1. Tables, chairs, plates, glasses and cutlery;

8.1.2. Microwave and oven;

8.1.3. Induction stove is to be used with our utensils and exhaust fan on. The utensils should be washed after each use;

8.1.4. Fridge. Hostel Engenho reserves the right to dispense with any ingredient that is abandoned in the following 24h.

  1. Hygiene and Cleaning

9.1. Cleaning of the common areas is done daily.

9.2. Whenever guests change rooms, cleaning will be performed.

9.3. In the case of stays of three days or more, guests may request new sheets and towels through the contacts available at reception or with the available staff.

9.4. We do not have a laundry service, so guests may wash their clothes in the washing machine in the kitchen.

  1. Common Areas

10.1. All staff and guests of Hostel Engenho must be respected by complying with the rules in this manual.

10.2. The common areas must be respected with regard to the tidiness and cleanliness of the common areas, as well as the utensils, dishes, accessories and electrical appliances present.

10.3. In the event of a breach of the rules and recommendations set out in these rules, such as damage, safety, prohibition (or others), sanctions may be imposed.

10.4. In situations not foreseen in the present rules, the applicable legislation shall be applied.

11.Facilities

11.1. Doors and windows must be kept closed whenever guests leave the accommodation.

11.2. The lights and heating are requested to be switched off when there are no guests in a particular area.

11.3. Guests must comply with the basic rules of hygiene, safety and civic-mindedness whilst on the premises of Hostel Engenho.

  1. Payments and Fees

12.1. All prices are in Euros, with VAT at the prevailing rate.

12.2. Acceptable payment methods are by ATM, bank transfer, MBWay or cash.

  1. Reservation Policy

13.1. Reservations can only be made by the following means: telephone, email, through our official website, partner websites or in person at Hostel Engenho, subject to availability.

13.2. To make reservations, the guest will need to provide identification information such as name, personal identification number, passport, telephone number and email address.

13.3. To validate the booking, the guest will have to pay the amount of 30% within the period indicated by Hostel Engenho, having to send the confirmation email of receipt of the booking request.

13.4. The booking will be confirmed on presentation of proof of payment of the booking deposit.

13.5. The remaining amount relating to the guest’s stay must be paid at the time of the check-in.

13.6. Any group reservation should be requested by e-mail up to 7 days before the desired check-in date and is subject to availability.

13.7. In the event of departure after the defined check-out period, an additional night will be charged.

13.8. In the event that the guest wishes to extend their stay at Hostel Engenho beyond the period set out in their booking, a new full payment will be requested.

13.8.1. In this case, your new stay can be guaranteed upon availability.

13.8.2. The guest enjoys the right of preference in requesting an extension of their stay at the hostel over other customers.

13.9. Hostel Engenho accepts reservations by room.

13.10. In the case of no-show of the guest until 3.00 p.m. of the check-in day, the payment of the reservation will not be refunded. The same amount cannot be discounted on other stays than that of the booking in question.

13.11. The amount paid as a guarantee for group bookings or special offers and promotions will not be refunded in the event of cancellation or other alteration.

13.12. In case of cancellation of reservations, the 70% refund can only be made if the cancellation is requested within 24 hours prior to check-in..
